There are also a large selection of cultural tours that focus on our complicated yet inspiring past, such as the Robben Island tour, where you go and take a peek into the very prison cell Nelson Mandela, our first democratic president, spent 27 long years fighting for freedom. Or you can visit District 6, and its accompanying museum, in the city centre, which is a beautiful but sad example of how the apartheid affected whole communities and families, and the work that has been done since, to try and recover and grow what was lost.
